The National Sitting Volleyball team of China came to Italy between 27th and 30th June in order to share some training sessions and exhibition games with their Italian counterparts.
On Tuesday 28th June, after a 3 hour morning training session, the first of two official matches between the two Sitting Volleyball Women Teams took place in the city center of Terni (TR).
Over a hundred fans and curious spectators gathered on the square “Piazza della Republica” to follow the challenge faced by the Italian team playing against the World Champions.
After warming up and listening to the national anthems, the first game started at 18.30. The teams – made up of a mix between disabled and non-disabled players – played on a similar indoor surface that had been specially set up for this event on the square by the Italian Volleyball Federation (FIPAV) and managed by the Technical Sport Coordinator, Mr Benito MONTESI.
After another 3 hour training session in the morning, the second game took place on Wednesday 29th June at 18.30 in the churchyard of Santa Maria deli Angeli Church in Assisi (PG), alongside the 2016 Indoor Volleyball Italian’s Regions Trophy for the U16 Boys & Girls.
The teams did not just play volleyball but also had the chance to visit the Marmore’s Falls, the Lake of Piediluco’s and the city of Narni.
This event was a great initiative and highlighted the links between sport, disability and solidarity.
