Turkey looking forward to hosting #EuroSittingVolley 2021

The 2021 European Sitting Volleyball Championships Men & Women will take place in Antalya (TUR) for the first time in history. The contract confirming the host was signed at the Ankara Green Park Hotel between ParaVolley Europe and the Turkish Physically Disabled Sport Federation (TBESF).

TBESF President Arif Uztürk and ParaVolley Europe President Branko Mihorko, as well as TBESF Vice President İlhami Kılınçkaya, TBESF Executive Vice President Irfan Steel, TBESF Board Member and Sitting Volleyball Vice President Av. Oğuz Çerik, Sitting Volleyball National Team Head Coach Yusuf Kenan Kök and TBESF Physiotherapist Ebru Ceylan were all in attendance for this important moment in the country’s sitting volleyball history.

Expressing happiness at the opportunity to host the Championships President Uztürk declared: ”sitting volleyball in our country has tremendously developed in the last five years. In addition to our Men’s National Team, our Women’s National Team has started to work. As a federation, we have organised international championships in branches such as amputee football, badminton and shooting. I believe that we will have a nice organisation of the European Sitting Volleyball Championships which will be held for the first time in our country in 2021. In this context, the Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoğlu would like to thank Branko Mihorko, ParaVolley Europe President for the decision to award the hosting of this major championship to Turkey. ”

At the same time, Mayor Uztürk called for encouraging disabled citizens to practice sports. “As a Federation, we operate in 22 sports. One of these sport is sitting volleyball. In addition to our men’s volleyball team, our women’s team was newly established and held its first camp in Aksaray. We strive to increase and improve our number of athletes with each passing period. In this context, we invite our former athletes with minimal disabilities or citizens with disabilities who are not active at home to play sports in one of the sports branches operating within our federation. ”

ParaVolley EuropePresident Branko Mihorko is very pleased to have the flagship competition held in Turkey for the first time. “We are looking forward to a great cooperation with the Turkish Physically Disabled Sport Federation and we would like to thank them for the support they are giving to the Sports Federation” he said.

A total of 24 countries, 12 men and 12 women, will participate in the Sitting Volleyball European Championship to be held in Antalya on 1-10 May 2021.  The Turkish Men’s team as well as Bosnia and Herzegovina, Germany, Croatia, Ukraine, the Netherlands, Latvia, Russia, Serbia will participate in the competition. For the women, Turkey’s newly formed team, Russia, Ukraine, UK, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Finland and Hungary will also be present. The remaining three teams will be determined after the outcome of the qualifying group in June 2020.
