President Mihorko’s meeting with Portugal in a bid to add a new member to the ParaVolley family

On 19th December, PVE President Branko Mihorko was in Portugal to meet with Ana Gomes, Rute Miranda and Paula Semedo who are all members of the  Clube Desportivo de Fiães team.  The aim of the meeting was to discuss the best way to promote and develop ParaVolley in the country and to entice Portugal to become a fully fledged member of the ParaVolley Europe family.

The club currently has 6 amputee players and they started training in 2015 first in Maia (Porto) then moved to Fiães. They practice on Mondays and Wednesdays, but unfortunately do not have any teams to play against.

In an effort to showcase the discipline of sitting volleyball to the community, the club organised several sitting volleyball tournaments for all the people who wanted to play and find out more about the sport.

Ana is hopeful that with the help of ParaVolley Europe, she will be able to reach out to clubs in Portugal.

President Mihorko is planning to meet with the FPV – Federaçao Portuguesa de Voleibol in the next couple of months to discuss how to take this initiative forward.
